It was first made available to consumers in the early 1970s after having been collected from the island of New Guinea. It has been bred and hybridized in cultivation to produce a line of garden plants. With Florific® Sweet Orange, Syngenta Flowers has succeeded in introducing bicolour genetics into seed-raised Impatiens hawkerii. A real breakthrough!

Growing:

Sow in week 5 for the pack and week 8 for the garden at 21 - 23°C. The seed does not need to be covered, but a cover of vermiculite can help to maintain moister levels and improve germination. Germination takes about eight days. Grow the young plant at 20°C during day and 18°C at night. Continue growing at lower temperatures: 18°C during day and 16°C at night. Transplant five weeks after sowing in a 12 cm pot. Reduce the light to 650W/m2. Maintain a pH 5.8 to 6.2, a medium EC below 1.5 mS/cm and sodium levels below 50 ppm.

Planting:
Plant out when night temperatures are above 8 °C as all NG Impatiens do not like cold temperatures. Planting distance: 40 cm to 40 cm.
