In detail

This attractive new bedding plant brings a unique soft tangerine orange colour to single flowered marigolds for the first time. The uniform, compact plant habit and early flowering potential equal the best modern bedding plant marigolds. The handsome single flowers of Disco Orange, 4cm or more in diameter, have large rounded petals and appear as early as on the best double flowered varieties. They are produced just above the sturdy dark green leaves, giving an impressive appearance in the bedding plant pack and in the garden. Older varieties of single marigolds have smaller flowers produced on longer stems: a more untidy effect. Like all French Marigolds (Tagetes patula), Disco Orange is very easy to grow. Professional growers can produce it using the same methods as for other varieties. Amateur gardeners will be able to purchase plants just starting to flower or they can easily raise their own plants indoors. Sowing should be about 8 weeks before planting. Seeds germinate quickly at about 18-20°C and the young plants should be grown on at 14-16°C. Well hardened plants will be ready to transfer to their final positions as soon as there is no further risk of frost. This new introduction will appeal to home gardeners for flower beds and containers. It brings a new combination of form and colour for use in public displays. Disco Orange blends well with other yellow, deep orange and mahogany red flowers. It provides a strong contrast for scarlet, white, pink and purple plants in containers.
