Lavandula angustifolia Ellagance Sky

Gold Medal

With the introduction of Ellagance Sky, the light violet blue colour is available for the first time in first-year flowering Lavandula angustifolia. The Fleuroselect judges were impressed by the variety's uniformity and richness in flowering and considered this addition to the limited range of colours in the Lavandula assortment sufficiently special to award 'Ellagance Sky' the Fleuroselect Gold Medal 2006.

In detail

Tradition has it that the Romans brought lavender to the more northern parts of Europe. The plant soon became indispensable in for example English gardens. In the Middle Ages, the Benedictine monks sang the praise of its medicinal qualities. In more modern times, the Fleuroselect jury raved about Lavandula angustifolia 'Ellagance Sky'. Awarded a 2006 Gold Medal, 'Ellagance Sky' is the first light violet blue variety in this segment of first year flowering Lavandula angustifolia. The members of the Fleuroselect jury especially praised the uniformity and profusion with which this lavender flowers and applauded the naturally basal branching habit. The jury regarded 'Ellagance Sky' as an early, uniform and first year flowering edition of the perennial lavender 'Munstead Strain', in which the character of a perennial is retained. The Fleuroselect Gold Medal forlue the sky blue 'Ellagance Sky' compliments the ice blue 'Ellagance Ice' in this important segment of first year flowering lavenders.
