Background Information
Impatiens hawkeri, commonly called New Guinea Impatiens, belongs to the Balsaminaceae family. It was first made available to consumers in the early 1970s after having been collected from the island of New Guinea. It has been bred and hybridized in cultivation to produce a line of garden plants.
