In detail

Celosia belongs to the Amaranthacea family and goes by the common name of cockscomb, feathered amaranth or woolflower. It originated in tropical and subtropical regions. The wild form is Celosia argentea and cultivars are divided into C. cristata and C. plumosa. Celosia plumosa is characterised by elegant plumes with feathery flower spikes that are coloured crimson, scarlet or gold. Celosia cristata is crested with tightly clustered brightly coloured flowers that form into a wide cockscomb. Celosia argentea plumosa 'Fresh Look Red' is a dwarf variety that is erect and well branched. Its green strong veined leaves serve to create an eye-catching contrast to the hundreds of vibrant bright red flowers spikes that are densely perched upon its conical flower head. This brilliant compact plant, with a highly uniform habit is a great accent plant whether used separately or in combination with other plants. Celosia 'Fresh Look Red' makes excellent bedding and edging plants. In borders, it serves as backdrop to shorter border plants. Plant masses of 'Fresh Look Red' in large-scale planting and public parks in return for a seemingly endless floral display at very low maintenance.
