Pelargonium hortorum Inspire Scarlet’

Gold Medal

Inspire Scarlet' is exceptionally early flowering, with large blooms and an excellent garden performance. Until now, this combination of qualities has rarely been seen in seed-raised Pelargonium. In addition, 'Inspire Scarlet' has a short cultivation period of just 95 days. Therefore, it is early flowering, but also flowers for longer - completing the picture of a true Gold Medal winner. 'Inspire Scarlet' impressed the Fleuroselect judges with its extremely early flowering and good all round pack and garden performance.

In detail

With a production period of about 95 days, Pelargonium hortorum 'Inspire Scarlet' grows faster than most seed raised geraniums. Besides being an early flowering variety, 'Inspire Scarlet' also distinguishes itself by having large flowers. Furthermore, compared to most other seed raised geraniums, this variety continues to flower much longer once bought by the consumer. These combined qualities make 'Inspire Scarlet' an especially desirable product for growers. The short production period of 'Inspire Scarlet' means that greenhouses can be optimally utilised and since lighting plays an increasingly important role in the production of seed geraniums, a shorter production period also means a saving in energy costs.
The present assortment of seed raised Pelargonium can be roughly split into two groups; one is very early, has compact growth and relatively small blossoms. These have great pack potential. The second group, which has vigorous growth and larger flowers, appear in the market as flowering plants in spring. These have excellent garden performance and are therefore favoured by consumers. Inspire Scarlet combines the positive aspects of both groups, therefore profiling itself as offering an absolute breakthrough in the already rich and varied seed raised Pelargonium market. Although this particular scarlet red variety was awarded the 2007 Gold Medal, the 'Inspire' series include other colours such as salmon, pink and white. 'Inspire Scarlet' seed will be available in the spring of 2006 while other colours will become available from October / November 2006. Breeders are still working on even more different colours.
