In the heat of summer 1990 one Impatiens performed exceptionally well in the European Fleuroselect trials: Impatiens Walleriana 'Mega Orange Star' showed it's large salmon-orange flowers, it's vigorous growth and it's exceptional weather tolerance throughout the trialling season. As a true recommendation for the Fleuroselect Gold Medal, it is a breakthrough in Impatiens, fit for plantings in full sun as well as in rainy climates all over Europe.
In detail
In the heat of summer 1990 in Europe, Impatiens Walleriana 'Mega Orange Star' performed exceptionally well in the Fleuroselect bedding plant trials. It showed exceptional weather tolerance throughout the trialling season. Both at 40 degrees centigrade under the full sun of Southern France and in north east America at 13 degrees in a terrible rain period, "Mega Orange Star" stood right up and excelled. Combining its climate tolerance with the attraction of many large salmon-orange flowers and with the impact made by a very vigorous growth Mega Orange Star became a candidate for the Fleuroselect Gold Medal from the moment it was planted out. It is wonderful in both very large planting schemes and hanging baskets. Bedding plant growers will only become fully aware of the advantages of Mega Orange Star after the sales season. To profit from additional value from the first, they should market it by its name 'Mega Orange Star' and refer to the Fleuroselect Gold Medal. For the future of Impatiens walleriana it is a very promissing innovation, which hopefully is the first of a wide range of colours. To all gardeners 'Mega Orange Star' should be recommended just as it was recommended to a Fleuroselect Gold Medal, "A beautiful breakthrough in Impatiens, fit for planting in full sun as well as under more rainy conditions throughout Europe".
