Coreopsis grandiflora is from the Compositae (daisy) family and native to the USA where they still grow in sunny situations in meadows and at roadsides. It goes by the common name of Tickseed. The Coreopsis takes its name from the resemblance of its seeds to a koris, or bug. The other generic name by which these plants are known, Calliopsis, means "beautiful flower," or "lovely eye.
