Verbena x hybrida Sandy Scarlet

Gold Medal

A great advance in Verbenas, this splendid new scarlet variety is ideal for bedding purposes. It retains its neat, compact habit throughout the summer, and becomes covered in blooms which give a pleasing ball-shape to individual plants. Proven across Europe, Sandy Scarlet will have great appeal to all home gardeners.

In detail

Both growers and their customers have come to realise the increasing value of Verbenas as bedding plants. Thriving in full sun, Sandy Scarlet has proved itself remarkably well in trials throughout Europe. This 1988 Award Winner has much to recommend it. Whilst many strains of Verbena are apt to spread and become loose, Sandy Scarlet has a neat, ball habit and its stunning bright red flowers create a dome of colour, beautifully complemented by dark green foliage. Suitable either for green or colour sales, Sandy Scarlet is a major advance in bedding Verbenas, retaining its tidy appearance right through the summer. It begins flowering about fourteen to sixteen weeks after sowing. Sandy Scarlet grows to 20-25 cm (8-10 ins.), and will have great appeal to home gardeners. It needs very little attention once planted out, and will reward customers with an abundance of stunning scarlet blooms for many weeks from mid-summer onwards. Ideal as for public departments who need dwarf growing, trouble-free bedding material, this new variety is guaranteed to arouse great interest and is a low-cost alternative to many, more traditional subjects.
