The name Gaura is from the Greek Gauros meaning ‘superb’, and relates to its striking flowers. This species is native to southern Louisiana and Texas. Lindheimeri refers to Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer, a German-born botanist who collected intensively in Texas for Harvard University. Sometimes, this plant is also referred to as Lindheimer’s beeblossom. It originates in moist places and prairies of southern North America and has a graceful habit that makes it a popular border plant.
