Callistephus chinensis Starlight Rose

Gold Medal

In the hot summer of 1989 Fleuroselect trialled several new Callistephus varieties of which this compact and beautiful Aster really excelled. Though it was obvious that Asters are not easy to grow and not all types of soil are suitable for this culture, 'Starlight Rose' gave a very uniform and brilliant show. Moreover this aster is relatively wilt resistant. The splendid compact plants branch easily from the base are covered with well shaped, full blooms of a clear rose colour.

In detail

The attractiveness of it's flowers and the compact shape of 'Starlight Rose' makes it a real `show stopper', especially when you compare this 1992 Fleuroselect Medal Winner to other Callistephus varieties and under different circumstances at different soils. Its resistance to wilt only counts if there is a wilt problem, but if that is the case, one can easily grow Aster Starlight Rose. The colour can be both described as both bright rose and as warm rose. Professional plant growers can use Starlight Rose both for bedding and for potting (especially in the U.S.A.). For raising 1000 plants they need approx. 5 grams of seeds, they germinate in 7 to 10 days at 15 to 20 degrees C. The plants grow uniformly and flower richly. Because of their compactness they are easy to handle at transport. For the hobby gardeners Starlight Rose is a rewarding bedding plant, which they will surely grow again after their first attempt and success. They may hope and look for extension of the colour range. The Fleuroselect Gold Medal is rightly awarded to 'Starlight Rose' as an innovation in asters enabling growers to extend the use of this plant to new markets and "old" soils.
